Kerryman moves to ‘compact format’
In a front-page editorial, editor Declan Malone said while the Tralee town edition (which comes out a day later than the county editions) had been published in compact format since 2006, “the change to compact for the county edition of the paper marks the end of one era and the start of another for the Kerryman.”
The Kerryman is owned by the Independent group.
Its main rival, The Kerry’s Eye, owned by the Kennelly family and also published in Tralee, is in tabloid format, as is the Killarney-based The Kingdom which is owned by TCH.
In recent times the Kerryman has undergone a number of cutbacks, it has closed its local and once huge printing department and outsourced its printing, and has sold its headquarters at the Clash Industrial Estate.
In February it shed a number of editorial staff.
