IRISH authorities have finalised an agreement with the Cayman Islands, which will provide it with greater access to tax information on accounts held in the financial hotspot.

Ireland, along with Japan, the Netherlands and South Africa, have joined eight other countries afforded tax information assistance to OECD standards under a unilateral agreement, which does not require a bilateral treaty.

The Revenue Commissioners said yesterday that this development will allow it to request information from the Cayman Islands’ authorities that is relevant to an Irish tax investigation.
