CONSUMERS have been urged to support local farmers and food producers in order to help the local economy.

The Irish Organic Farmers and Growers Association (IOFGA), which issued the plea, said this is something practical that everyone can do to make a small positive difference in the economic climate.

IOFGA chairperson Kate Carmody urged its own members and communities across the country to make a point of adding some local produce to their weekly shopping.
