IT would be wrong of farmers to believe there are significant further savings to be made through staff or other cost reductions in the dairy industry, the co-ops umbrella body ICOS declared yesterday.

Irish Co-operative Organisation Society director general John Tyrrell said the vast majority of those cuts had already been made as co-ops continued to tighten their expenditures.

Mr Tyrrell warned farmers there would be no simple solutions to the difficulties facing the dairy sector.
