UNEMPLOYMENT in the North rose in November at the fastest pace in more than 28 years as a housing slump and falling export demand hit the region’s economy.

Benefit applications, adjusted for seasonal swings, increased to 34,100 in November from 31,000 in October, the Belfast-based Department of Enterprise Trade and Investment said yesterday in an e-mail.
