Champion of Champions awards recognise top cattle breeders

IT WAS a big occasion for cattle breeders yesterday when the RDS Champion of Champions awards were presented at a ceremony in Ballsbridge.

An award was made to the highest Economic Breeding Index (EBI) dairy cow and also to the highest Suckler Beef Value (SBV) beef cow based on the autumn 2008 Irish Cattle Breeding Federation index listings.

The Irish Holstein Friesian Association Award nominee was Richard Whelan, Enfield, Co Meath, with Lumville Danoise 2, winner of the Baileys Championship in August and runner-up at the Holstein World Conference.
