Nowcasting wins Nexen contract

MARINE weather forecaster Nowcasting International has signed a €300,000, three-year deal with Canadian global energy company Nexen to support its North Sea operations.

It provides high resolution weather data and meteorological and oceanographic services.

Chief executive Dr Mark White said it was a significant development in that the company had won the contract in an open tender competition.

“Beating off the UK meteorological office which is the incumbent in this open tender was a big step forward for us and the Aberdeen weather station which we have opened with Wilkens Weather Technologies.”

Ennis-based Nowcasting has developed a large offshore clientele dependent on forecasts of weather and tidal conditions, including energy companies such as BP and Mobil, along with the Irish Coast Guard and Naval Service, Irish Ferries, P&O Ferries, and the ports of Dublin and London.
