BT job cuts will not affect Irish arm

British Telecom has said that any job losses at its Irish operations will be based around its ongoing policy of “natural attrition”, rather than forming any part of the group’s overall cost-cutting plan, which involves the loss of 10,000 positions.

BT Group yesterday said that it would be cutting 6,000 jobs — in addition to 4,000 cuts already made recently — as further cost savings were needed in light of widespread under performance by the group.

The majority of the jobs will go in Britain at the group’s retail, wholesale and network divisions.
