Pfizer cuts jobs but more FDI on way

On the down side US pharmaceutical giant, Pfizer — which employs more than 2,300 people in Ireland and runs major manufacturing operations in Cork — is rumoured to be looking at cutting a small number of jobs in its Dublin base.

No details have emerged from the company but there is speculation that some jobs, less than 20 it is understood, are on the cards as the group’s sales and marketing facility.

Meanwhile, Salesforce, the New York Stock Exchange-listed customer relationship management (CRM) technology provider — is eyeing Ireland as one of the locations for increased job creation over the next 12 months.

New figures from the Central Statistics Office last week, showed that the foreign investment inflow into Ireland for 2007 was more than €22.35bn.
