Irish construction sector output plunges by 26% in second quarter

OUTPUT in the Irish construction sector plunged by more than 26% in the second quarter of the year while Poland saw a near 20% surge.

This figure compares to the same period last year and shows other countries such as Romania and Slovenia all experiencing massive hikes in the volume of output.

The Central Statistics office (CSO) said the fall in output in Ireland largely reflects a decline of almost 50% in residential building work. The volume of output in civil engineering fell by 2.2%, also contributing to the overall decrease, while the value of production fell by 23.4%.
