Speculation over IL&P merger

WEEKEND reports suggested that Irish Life & Permanent (IL&P) has already turned down a merger approach from Anglo Irish Bank.

Anglo reportedly made the approach to IL&P in recent weeks after its prospective takeover of Irish Nationwide hit the buffers.

Other weekend reports suggested that Lloyds TSB and HBoS have also expressed interest in IL&P.
