Market slips despite early gains
The index was up over 100 points in the morning but fell back in the afternoon with some profit-taking and the US markets opening weaker after shares in Lehman Brothers fell 35% in New York trading after talks about a capital infusion from Korea Development Bank ended.
In the financial sector, AIB ended down 5c at €8.75, Bank of Ireland gained 3c to €5.90, Irish Life & Permanent shed 12c to €7.16 while Anglo Irish Bank weakened 10c to close at €5.70.
In construction, CRH lost 19c to €18.70, Kingspan added 10c to €8.30, while Grafton gave up 15c to €3.55.
