Delicious wins top taste award

DELICIOUS Gourmet Foods broke new ground for Ireland’s specialist food sector when produce from the Delicious bakery, the only coeliac-dedicated artisan bakery operating in Ireland, scooped a coveted gold award at the prestigious Great Taste Awards 2008, Britain’s most authoritative, independent standard for Britain’s fine food sector.

Delicious’ winning gluten-free Apple Square was just one of the 4,800 products competing in this year’s awards which were tasted and tested by 160 experts. The specialist Cork baker was one of 2,000-plus small food producers to enter this year’s awards.

The award coincides with the forthcoming national launch of the Delicious “on the go” range which was developed in response to strong consumer demand for the Delicious range of cakes and breads.

Commenting on her company’s 2008 Great Taste Award, entrepreneur and Delicious founder Denise O’Callaghan said: “It proves a quality-focused enterprise like ours, where we hand make traditional artisan craft bakery produce, can compete at every level in the UK and Ireland’s notoriously competitive food sector.”
