SHANNON Development got a strong endorsement yesterday from Tánaiste Mary Coughlan as swingeing budget cuts loom in the state sector.

Recent reports speculated that the agency would have its industrial and tourism promotional roles subsumed within Enterprise Ireland and Fáilte Ireland.

However, the Tánaiste travelled to Shannon by government jet to launch Shannon Development’s annual report and give a strong statement on the role of the agency which is funded by her department.
