Gannon receives honorary doctorate

PROF Frank Gannon, director general of Science Foundation Ireland, is today being awarded an honorary doctorate from Queen’s University Belfast.

At a conferring ceremony in the university this afternoon, Prof Gannon will receive an Honorary Doctorate of Medical Science, in recognition of his illustrious scientific career and for distinction in medical science.

Appointed director general of SFI in July 2007, Prof Gannon was previously executive director of the European Molecular Biology Organisation and senior scientist at the European Molecular Biology Laboratory, based in Heidelberg, Germany.
