Lisavaird milk bonus welcomed

A DECISION by Lisavaird Co-op in West Cork to pay a bonus of 7.5 cents per gallon for 2007 milk — 3,750 for a 50,000-gallon producer — has been welcomed by the Irish Creamery Milk Suppliers Association.

John O’Leary, deputy president, said Lisavaird’s action demonstrates to their farmer suppliers that they can expect to share to a realistic and fair degree from favourable market conditions.

“This is the kind of commitment that ICMSA wants to see from co-ops. It’s a sign that Lisavaird are focussed on keeping their suppliers and ensuring the kind of mutual support and common commercial interest that any ambitious co-op should be intent on fostering,” he said.
