World agricultural trade talks

DIRECT talks with EU Commissioner Peter Mandelson on the world trade negotiations are being sought by the Oireachtas Agriculture Committee.

Committee chairman Johnny Brady said the committee is keen to put its views directly to Mr Mandelson, the lead EU negotiator.

He said Agriculture Minister Mary Coughlan is concerned with the possibility that Irish and EU agriculture will be sacrificed for the sake of a final agreement.
