TULLAMORE Dew, the Irish whiskey brand owned by C&C, recorded a 20% increase in sales over the past 12 months, becoming the second-largest selling Irish whiskey in the world.

The company said 600,000 nine litre cases were sold in 80 countries in the year to the end of February this year, compared with 500,000 the previous year and just 160,000 in 1994.

It also said it has increased its market share of the Irish whiskey category from 7.7% in 1996 to 13.6% in 2006.
