Call to participate in Tree Week

COMMUNITIES and local authorities have been urged by Forestry Minister Mary Wallace to participate in some of the 300 or more events which will take place around the country during National Tree Week (March 2-8).

Organised by the Tree Council of Ireland, with Coillte and 02 as sponsors, the programme includes forest walks and tree planting ceremonies.

Ms Wallace also welcomed Coillte sponsorship of more than 15,000 trees, which will be distributed to community groups.

“While National Tree Week is a timely reminder of the environmental and social benefits of forestry, it is also an opportune time for farmers to examine the income opportunities that exist in forestry,” she said.
