Transport guidelines published

NEW best practice guidelines for the welfare of animals during transport have been published by Agriculture, Fisheries and Food Minister Mary Coughlan.

The guidelines produced by the Farm Animal Welfare Advisory Council aim to encourage and assist all those involved in transportation to adopt and maintain the highest standards of animal welfare.

Ms Coughlan thanked the chairman of FAWAC, Professor Patrick Fottrell, former President of NUI Galway, and the members of the council for their work in producing the guidelines, which apply to the transportation of cattle, sheep, goats, pigs and equines.
