PEA growers will meet in Athy, Co Kildare, tonight to consider the impact of a decision by Bachelors to close its drying and assembly plant in the town.

Bachelors announced last week that it plans to close its packaging operation in Athy with the loss of 16 jobs and transfer it to a new €1 million plant in Cabra, Dublin, where it will be expanding its workforce.

The company, which employs 270 people, will produce Erin Foods products for the Irish and export markets.
