56% drop in ICT students worrying

A 56% drop in the number of students accepting third-level computing courses is posing a threat to the sustainability of one of Ireland’s most successful and secure sectors, the director of information communications Technology at Tipperary Institute has warned.

Urging a realignment of interest in the ICT posts, James Greenslade said the drop from 4,097 to 1,791 from 2000 to last year is worrying for Ireland’s excellent international reputation in the sector.
