Fyffes buys 60% share in Sol Group

FYFFES PLC, the Irish tropical-fruit distributor, bought a 60% stake in Sol Group Marketing to enter the US winter melon market.

Sol Group Marketing, based in Pompano Beach, Florida, imports about eight million boxes of melons to the US, Dublin-based Fyffes said yesterday in a statement, adding it also bought farms in Honduras and Guatemala. Financial details were not disclosed.

Chairman of Fyffes, David McCann said Sol Group Marketing has developed a strong position in the US winter melon sector based on high levels of service and delivery of top quality product to its customers.

“We look forward to working with Rafi and his team in developing this business further,” he said.
