IFA chief economist set to retire

THE IFA’s chief economist Con Lucey yesterday announced his intention to retire from his position as the association’s chief economist after 34 years. His retirement will take effect from May 2008.

IFA general secretary Michael Berkery said: “Con Lucey has made an outstanding contribution to the shaping of agricultural policy and the development of Irish farming over the past one-third of a century.

“He joined the association’s economics section 34 years ago and quickly rose to become chief economist in March 1979.”
