PRESSURE for a total ban on Brazilian beef imports to the European Union mounted yesterday after the findings of the latest veterinary investigation into production systems in the South American country were published.

IFA president Padraig Walshe said Agriculture Minister Mary Coughlan has no option but to insist on a ban, following the report by the European Food and Veterinary Office (FVO).

He said he had requested an urgent meeting with the minister to discuss what he said was the very disturbing contents of the latest FVO report on the failure of Brazil to meet European Union standards and food safety controls.
