IRELAND’S rate of inflation rose again last month, as prices for food such as bread, butter and milk rose to the highest level in five years.

The annual rate of inflation as measured by the Consumer Price Index, which includes mortgage interest costs, increased to 4.8% in October, up from 4.6% in September, the latest Central Statistics Office figures show.

Irish prices are now rising faster than elsewhere in the euro region.
