Improved prices at the marts

THERE were gains of up to €25/head at the live sales at the marts yesterday where there was strong demand for both bullocks and heifers.

Up to €420 over was paid for the quality heavy bullocks at Kilkenny Mart where the trade for both bullocks and heifers was described as “excellent“, but the €740 over which was paid for a Belgian Blue X 530kg bullock at Ennis Mart was the talking point of the sale.

Focus of the trade at Bandon Mart yesterday centred on a small entry of dairy stock, which developed into the best ever sale of dairy stock at the centre with the buoyant trade averaging €2,360/head.
