Stock exchange to halve trading fees

THE Irish Stock Exchange will tomorrow cut the fees it charges for trading by more than half, as new rules governing equity trading are adopted across the European Union.

The exchange will charge securities companies between 25 cent and €1.50 per trade depending on the number of transactions, according to director of trading Brian Healy.

“We are aiming for a simpler, more transparent, cost-efficient system,” said Mr Healy.

The Markets in Financial Instruments Directive allows brokers across Europe to compete directly with exchanges to offer services that only market operators could provide.
