Disease compensation inadequate

ANIMAL disease compensation is now out of line with market realities, according to ICMSA Dairy Committee chairman Dominic Cronin.

Disease compensation inadequate

Mr Cronin said the value of dairy stock has increased considerably this year, but the guideline figures used by the Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food for TB and brucellosis valuations have not kept pace.

Guideline figures for first and second lactation cows have not increased at all for certain categories since last April, while the most a category has increased is by 200, which does not reflect the reality on the ground.
