Google sees profits rise by 46%

GOOGLE, owner of the most popular internet search engine, said third-quarter profit rose 46% after the company extended its lead over Yahoo and sold more ads on YouTube.

Net income rose to $1.07 billion (€748m), or $3.38 a share, from $733.4m, or $2.36, a year earlier, Google said last night. Sales jumped 57% to $4.23bn. Excluding sales passed on to partner websites, revenue rose to $3.01bn, beating analysts’ estimates.

Google established operations in Ireland in 2003 and expects to employ 1,800 people at its Dublin operation by early next year.
