Beef issue commitment welcomed

IRISH Farmers’ Association (IFA) Munster vice president Sean O’Leary has welcomed a commitment from European Parliament member Brian Crowley in relation to the Brazilian beef issue.

Beef issue commitment welcomed

Mr O’Leary said Mr Crowley had informed Munster IFA officers at a meeting in Cork that he and his fellow Fianna Fáil MEP’s will be putting forward a joint request this week to the European Commission. They will ask the commission to give Brazil one month to get its meat traceability up to the equivalent EU-required standards or face an outright ban.

Mr O’Leary urged support for the call made by the MEPs to take immediate action if these deadlines are not met.
