New supports for organic farmers

A NEW scheme to support organic farmers has been announced by Food and Horticulture Minister Trevor Sargent.

The Organic Farming Scheme is co-funded by European Union and is part of Ireland’s Rural Development Programme 2007-2013.

Mr Sargent said the aim is to deliver enhanced environmental and animal welfare benefits and to encourage producers to respond to the market demand for organically produced food.
