BCI announces radio funding

THE Broadcasting Commission of Ireland (BCI) has announced the award of €954,000 for radio programming in the fourth round of Sound & Vision, the broadcasting funding scheme.

Overall €3.022m has been invested in radio projects since the scheme’s inception.

The commission said 116 radio applications were received in the fourth round and 70 of these were awarded funding.

Documentaries accounted for 74% of proposals funded.

Other genres to receive funding included factual, children’s/education, drama, sport and adult literacy.

The commission added that 44% of the programmes funded will be broadcast on community radio, 36% on commercial stations, 12% by public service broadcasters and 8% on special interest radio.
