Eircom deny buying MANs

EIRCOM said yesterday that it has not held any talks with the Government over the acquisition of the State-owned Metropolitan Area Networks (MANs) — the series of fibre networks which are being built around the country to act as an alternative source of broadband supply.

Eircom was said to be considering offering the Government a stake in its own copper wire infrastructure in return for the MANs. However, a spokesperson for Eircom said yesterday that no approach had been made to the Government as yet.
