THE union representing thousands of financial services workers in Ireland has dismissed the idea of Sunday trading, which has been proposed by Halifax.

The bank’s chief executive Mark Duffy said it is considering proposals to open on Sundays and extend regular opening hours.

The bank, which rebranded from Bank of Scotland (Ireland) late last year has already decided to open its branches on Saturdays to win business from other banks, most of which open only between Monday to Friday.
