ISEQ Index weaker despite ECB news

The ISEQ Index closed weaker despite the ECB leaving interest rates unchanged for this month, but with further hikes predicted for September.

The Dublin Exchange closed down 61.5 points to 9354.8.

Financial stocks reacted negatively to the news overall. AIB dropped 4c to 20.56 and Bank of Ireland gave up 44c to 14.99. In the second line Anglo-Irish closed down 10c to 15.01 while Irish Life & Permanent shed 35c to 18.75.

In Construction, CRH gained 23c to 37.35 with 1.35 million shares traded. Kingspan lost 30c to 20.30, Grafton fell by 22c to 10.15 while McInerney remained at 2.11.
