TWO consignments of timber from Canada were found to be infested with harmful forestry pests, it was revealed yesterday.

Forestry Minister Mary Wallace said the pests included the pine wood nematode, one of the most serious threats to EU plantations.

She said her department had intercepted the timber and all the necessary steps had been taken.
