The future of Ireland’s manufacturing sector in a challenging environment was explored yesterday at a major conference in Dublin.

At the annual conference of the National Centre for Partnership and Performance (NCPP) at the Royal Hospital Kilmainham, more than 300 delegates were told of the critical role that workplace innovation can play in contributing to productivity gains and competitiveness. They also heard that effective and innovative workplace policies and supports are required to ensure that manufacturing continues to play a central role in the Irish economy of the 21st century.

According to Professor Richard Lester, founding director of the Industrial Performance Centre at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), the role that innovation plays in driving changes is vital, particularly in respect of productivity growth, resilience and adaptability.
