American insurance firm creates up to 25 jobs

UP TO 25 jobs are to be created in Mahon, Co Cork, after a US company announced plans to enter the Irish insurance market.

Assurant Solutions, which already employs 50 people in Cork, said it will offer home, loan and mortgage repayment protection.

The Mahon site acts a back office for Assurant and processes claims for the company’s American customers.

Assurant has been in Ireland for eight years and Enterprise, Trade & Employment Minister Micheál Martin said the expansion is a vote of confidence in Cork and a reflection of the hard work of the existing staff.

“The Cork office provides vital support to Assurant’s operations in the US and Europe, where it provides specialised insurance. The expansion will see the creation of quality jobs in Cork and shows that we can continue to compete with locations across Europe in attracting investment and employment,” he said.

Robert McCarthy, business development manager for Assurant Solutions in Ireland said: “For consumers to get real value from their cover purchases, it is vital that they have a choice.”
