Carphone Warehouse’s Irish turnover up 45% to €94m

CARPHONE Warehouse sells more phones per store in Ireland than anywhere else in the world, as turnover is set to hit €94 million in its Irish operations.

This marks a 45% increase in turnover from last year, which was €65m in Ireland.

Chief executive of the group’s Irish division, Stephen Mackarel said they have plans to open 15 stores in Ireland this year, which will bring their store numbers to 70.

This is an increase from 45 stores in operation at the end of last year.

“The key drivers of the good performance in Ireland is the healthy competition between the mobile operators.

“We are very pleased with the performance of Carphone Warehouse in Ireland and we expected profit to be significantly higher this year than the €1.6m recorded last year.”

Carphone Warehouse Ireland is expected to file its statutory accounts at the end of this month.

The company also said yesterday that the increase in the number of connections completed in Ireland at 33% was well above the overall company average of 23%.

Mr Mackarel said one in four phones sales in Ireland is done through Carphone Warehouse and he expected this to increase to one in three after Christmas.

Overall, Carphone Warehouse, said yesterday full-year overall sales rose as the company added more wireless and broadband internet subscribers.

Sales jumped 31% to £3.99 billion (€5.88bn).

Revenue was higher than the £3.96bn average of 17 estimates compiled by Bloomberg.
