Zoo to hold day of farming activities

AGRI Aware, the farming and food education body, yesterday donated a three-year-old pedigree Friesian milking cow to Dublin Zoo.

To mark Bluebell’s arrival, a day of farming activities will be held in City Farm at the zoo next Sunday. These will include cow milking, buttermaking, sheep shearing, wool spinning, weaving and horseshoe making.

Agri Aware chairwoman Mairead Lavery said many people in an increasingly urbanised society are not aware of the link between the farm and the food they eat every day. She said it was “crucial people have an understanding of where their food comes from”.
