Promotion offers flights from New York at $0.99
Boston and Cork-based tour operators myguideIreland is offering fares from $0.99 from JFK Airport to Ireland West Airport Knock, with the purchase of a minimum four nights’ accommodation in the west of Ireland.
Taxes and charges for the $0.99 flights come to about $99 and the cheapest four-night package available is $207 (€153) per person.
CEO of myguideIreland Conor Buckley said: “We believe we are creating history by being the first travel company to offer a transatlantic flight for less than $1.”
The company said if they did offer flights originating in Ireland they would probably sell them for $99 each way as they would not be subsidising the fares with holiday packages in America.
The company’s business development director Kevin Kelly said: “The current promotion we are running is for US originating traffic only. As the flights go each way, we are considering something for Irish originating traffic at the moment, but if we did anything, it would be flight-only.”
The flights are operated by Edinburgh-based low fares carrier flyglobespan.
At least 10 seats will be available on each departure in May and June at the $0.99 price, with many having sold out yesterday.
