Irish group joins calf export protest

They will join CIWF UK and Kent against Live Exports in calling for a ban on the export of calves which, they claim, are not suited to long journeys.

CIWF Ireland director Mary-Anne Bartlett said a significant number of calves shipped to the continent from Dover come from the Republic of Ireland. Many are destined for intensive veal units in the Netherlands. Calling on the Irish Government to seek alternatives to calf exports, she said CIWF Ireland wants Irish calves reared humanely in Ireland instead of being sent on long journeys to the continent.
