Warning on health and safety

The president of the National Irish Safety Organisation, John O’Shaughnessy, has warned that a small number of companies in the construction sector are scrimping on health and safety in order to cut costs and win more business in an increasingly competitive market.

The voluntary body is urging that those employing contractors or subcontractors would insist on checking the safety record of those being hired and refuse to tolerate “cowboy” operators.
