Bord Gáis CEO set to retire

Since he joined Bord Gáis in 1985 Mr Walsh held many senior management positions until August 2000 when he was appointed chief executive. In October of that year, he was also appointed to the board of the company. He will retire on July 31.

Mr Walsh said: “Having spent 22 years of my career with Bord Gáis, I will leave with a tinge of sadness. That being said, I view my years with the company, and particularly the last seven years as CEO, as very fruitful where key strategic objectives were achieved and I look forward now to a new phase in my business life.

“I appreciate the support and assistance I received from board members and from the Department of Communications, Marine and Natural Resources over the years and I want to pay special thanks to my management team and all my colleagues and to wish them future success,” he added.

Chairman of Bord Gáis, Ed O’Connell said: “As chief executive of Bord Gáis, Gerry Walsh played an outstanding role where he will leave a legacy that will live on for some time. On behalf of my fellow board members, I wish Gerry and his family the very best.”

A process is in place to recruit Mr Walsh’s successor as chief executive.
