Federation hails brokers’ conviction

The Federation of Small Businesses yesterday welcomed the conviction of two Doncaster, England-based insurance brokers who were found guilty of defrauding nearly 500 small business owners in the North by accepting premiums for insurance cover which was not provided.

The FSB has been campaigning for lower insurance premiums in the North for six years and was instrumental in setting up an insurance working group, led by the Department of Enterprise, Trade and Investment which brought together all of the key players to address the problem.

FSB Insurance spokes person Sean Fox said: “While we welcome these convictions today, given that Northern Ireland has the highest level of insurance premiums in the UK, it is really not surprising that unscrupulous fraudsters would seek to provide dud insurance cover to exploit small business owners desperate for affordable insurance.”
