Digiweb reveals plan to create 200 jobs as data centre opens
The Dundalk-headquartered company — which acts as a business-to-business (B2B) and consumer Internet Service Provider (ISP) — said yesterday that the new Blanchardstown facility will act as the company’s core for its internet and broadband infrastructure. It will allow for further broadband deployment and specific data centre services.
The new centre will act as Digiweb’s 24-hour monitoring and response centre. It will cover Digiweb’s wireless and fibre broadband network and data centre and corporate connectivity.
“This will enable us to accelerate our pace of innovation and enable us to announce further exciting services,” said Digiweb’s managing director, Colm Piercy.
The Taoiseach said “It is vital that Ireland continues to create jobs in the knowledge economy. It is also great to see a cutting edge Irish technology company expanding into new markets outside Ireland.”
Yesterday’s announcement included Digiweb’s plans to deploy new technologies including Ireland’s first 4G (fourth generation) mobile broadband network.
The company already has a presence in Britain, Italy, France, Spain and Germany. It recently secured a mobile wideband licence for Norway, allowing it to roll-out ISP and broadband services from next year.
It claims to be the fastest growing broadband supplier in Ireland and was last year judged the country’s second fastest growing technology business employing more than 120 people in Dundalk, Dublin, Waterford and Limerick. Last year, Digiweb concluded a €20 million funding round with investment firm, Moritz Group. This partly aided this week’s expansion deal.
