Oran to build €35m renewable energy plant
This biomass plant is on a 130-acre site in Kintore, Aberdeenshire and will create 25 skilled jobs.
Oran group business development director Pat Condon said: “This is big news in Scotland as it means Scottish agriculture sectors will no longer have to transport animal by-products south of the border from the very north-east of Scotland. Our new plant will generate energy from meat and bone-meal produced at our rendering plant also situated on the Kintore site.
“The new waste recycling plant will use all biomass materials, including wood, dried sludge pellets and cake, meat and bone-meal to create energy,” he said.
Oran Group managing director Michael Murphy said: “The new plant will be operational next year and we have been awarded a connection to the Scottish National Grid, to supply 10 MW or sufficient energy for 9,000 homes.”
The Oran group’s head office is on the Grand Parade in Cork and its main British office near Stirling, Scotland.
It has a turnover in excess of €45m.
The group recycles more than one-million tonnes of bio-solids each year to agricultural land throughout Britain.
