Shearing championships set for June

THE Clik Pour-on All Ireland sheep shearing championships will be held in the Connemara Gaeltacht for the first time on the June Bank Holiday weekend.

Minister Eamon Ó Cuiv said the event would be the perfect platform for the region to display its rich cultural heritage and major tourist attractions.

A temporary village, “An Baile Beag”, will feature local business, trade exhibitions and crafts during the three-day event.

The skills of hand-shearing were demonstrated by former All-Ireland sheep shearing champions, Patrick Kerrigan and Seamus Joyce, at the event launch.
