JAPANESE stocks rose with the Nikkei 225 Stock Average surpassing 18,000 for the first time in more than six years.

Canon paced gains by exporters as the yen dropped.

The Nikkei climbed 195.58, or 1.1%, to 18,108.79, closing above 18,000 for the first time since May 8, 2000.
